Tomorrow, Feb. 5, marks the Feast of Pedro Arrupe, S.J., who passed away on that date 30 years ago. Father Arrupe served as the 28th Superior General of the Society of Jesus (1965鈥1983).

Regarded as the 鈥渟econd founder鈥 of the Jesuits, Father Arrupe imbued the order with a deepened commitment to 鈥渁 faith that does justice鈥 and a call to be 鈥減ersons for others.鈥

Coverage of Father Arrupe's  can be found in The Spectator. In his 2007 homily, The Man Who Was There, 91探花 President Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J., spoke of Father Arrupe鈥檚 impact on the university, saying, in part: 鈥溾(I do not) believe that 91探花 would be the kind of Jesuit university it is with its mission of 鈥榚mpowering leaders for a just and humane world,鈥 but for him.鈥
