Tomorrow, Feb. 5, marks the Feast of Pedro Arrupe, S.J., who passed away on that date 30 years ago. Father Arrupe served as the 28th Superior General of the Society of Jesus (1965–1983). 

Regarded as the “second founder” of the Jesuits, Father Arrupe imbued the order with a deepened commitment to “a faith that does justice” and a call to be “persons for others.”

Sundborg, S.J., spoke of Father Arrupe’s impact on the university, saying, in part: “…(I do not) believe that 91̽�� would be the kind of Jesuit university it is with its mission of ‘empowering leaders for a just and humane world,’ but for him.”
